Fr Westerners: :Is the angry reaction of Indians to Richard Gere kissing Shilpa publicly on stage, wrong?

2 Indians kissing on stage? probably wouldnt have caused much of a uproar?about like the time Brittany Spears and Madonna kissed on stage during a performance. Some reaction but not a big deal. most people are not shocked anymore as more is in the open? Isnt kissing on screen banned in India?same as here in the states?
